abuja+family+youthdevelopment++suya=beautiful

I am going home! I am off to Abuja to further explore the interesting world of international development!?! A great plus to my work in youth literacy in Nigeria is that I will be spending quality time with my family and friends. Needless to say, I am quite excited! Trust me, there are concerns but there is also SUYA! Suya just makes everything better, at least to me it has that effect. I love Suya and being in Nigeria means that I will have unlimited access to one of my favorite Nigerian treats. A little bit about this delicious food, Suya is spiced meat (different types) put on skewers and then grilled. The spices used to make Nigerian Suya are unique and it should be mentioned that Suya is a hot food! So if you are not a fan of pepper…I don't think you'll fancy this treat. Suya is usually served with sliced onions and more dried pepper, and wrapped in newspaper. I remember whenever Suya is brought into our house in Lagos, my siblings and I would trace the scent…trying to find out who was the oh-so-amazing visitor that brought us some Suya and if there would be enough for everyone to get a "decent" portion. Ikoyi Club is well-known for its Suya in Lagos and a must-visit. I am looking forward to discovering Abuja's top Suya spots (one respectable serving per week) as I learn more about and contribute to educational development in Nigeria and spend time with my family. The challenges in Abuja at this time are a bit worrisome but thank goodness for haven, I mean, comfort food ;)
